History of Electrical Fans

 Archaeologists first discovered what is believed to be the first traditional fan in the tomb of Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh King Tutankhamen. One fan found in the king's meal was made of ostrich feathers and another was made of gold-plated ebony and gemstones.

Then after that, a few centuries later around the 1500s, Italy became the first country to produce fans. Fans at that time symbolized one's prosperity and also as a symbol of luxury and widely used by socialites or bourgeoisie.

Electric fans are one of the most important inventions of electricity of all time, as electric fans are from the development of more modern electrical technology. The first electric fan was built in 1886 by Schuyler Skaats Wheeler.

Wheeler introduced his first electric fan that had 2 propellers without protection and was powered by electric motor (DC) power. The next development of electric fans was done by Philip H. Diehl who obtained his patent in 1887.At first, fans were part of a style in his day. However, the Roman idea broke the habit of people using fans as part of fashion by combining ice or snow in the early 19th century to cool the room.

In the 1830s, Apalachioa, Fla., John Gorrie, an American physician, blew air over a bucket of ice to cool hospital rooms for malaria patients and yellow fever patients. When President James Garfield was shot in 1881, U.S. Navy engineers invented a device that combined a fan and ice cloth, which lowered the temperature of the dying president's room by 20 degrees and cost him £436 an hour.

Then, a year after Garfield's murder, Wheeler (1860-1923) found a way to apply new electrical science to make the fan spin. Wheeler's fan is a fan with two unprotected propellers and is driven by an electric motor (DC).

Philip H. Diehl's fan can be taped to the ceiling of the house so it is widely used by the public at that time. He then continuously updated his artificial fan by adding a split-ball joint in his electric fan in 1904 so that philip H. In 1910, Westinghouse marketed an electric fan for household purposes with the claim that electricity to operate it only cost a low. Fans then became a popular electronic device in every household to remove hot air in the house.

Now with the advancement of the times, fans can be produced with better technology and increasingly affordable because of the raw materials produced mass in the industry. Life becomes more comfortable thanks to the presence of a fan. Hot air during the day or night can be overcome by the presence of an electric fan without having to expend power to fan using the hands. (https://news.ralali.com/sejarah-kipas-angin/)
